TORO PARK, Monterey County — October 28, 2026. Runners, coaches and families will gather at Toro Regional Park for the Pacific Coast Athletic League (PCAL) Cross-Country Championships this Saturday, October 31. The official Monterey County Parks calendar identifies cross-country activity at Toro Park on October 30–31, while York School’s athletic schedule specifically lists the PCAL Championships as a Central Coast Section qualifying meet on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
What is happening at Toro Park?
School cross-country competition brings students from multiple Monterey Bay area programs to race on an outdoor course. The PCAL Championships form part of the postseason schedule ahead of regional competition. The county lists the Pacific Coast Athletic League as the event organizer; an individual school schedule confirms the Saturday championship window, but does not establish the official start time for every division or guarantee that every participant competes at 10 a.m.
Will normal park access change?
A large youth sporting event can affect parking demand, traffic flow and popular picnic and walking areas. The county’s event listing does not itself announce a park-wide closure, a changed admission fee or a guaranteed available parking space. Anyone planning an unrelated visit should check current park notices and allow extra time around the competition. Spectators should respect course markings, athlete staging areas and directions from park staff.
Is this the same as the Highway 68 construction?
No. California58 previously covered separate road and drainage work affecting travel near Toro Park. The October 31 championship is a scheduled school sports event, not a new construction project. Visitors using Highway 68 should independently check Caltrans and county road advisories for traffic restrictions; the sports schedule is not an official road-status report.
Where can families confirm the schedule?
See the Monterey County Parks 2026 Special Events calendar and York School Cross-Country 2026 calendar. Meet details, course access and results should be confirmed with the school or league organizer, particularly if weather changes. This preview does not claim any race results or invent participant rankings.
